Production, Education and Critical Media Scholarship
Normal, Not Boring
Andy Elrick has worked as a Coordinating Producer, Producer, Senior Editor and Managing Editor for sports media companies across the globe; including ESPN, CBS Sports and the global governing body for basketball, FIBA. In that time he covered seven Super Bowls, three Final Fours, four European Basketball Championships, a Kentucky Derby and an NBA Finals.
Andy earned his PhD in Communications and Rhetoric from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2024. His research interests are focused on ethnographic studies of sports media production cultures, specifically how sports media producers instrumentalize their existing fandom, in ways both productive and problematic, in their work.
In July of 2024, Andy was named Assistant Professor of Sports Communication and Director of the Center for Sports Communication at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York. Previously he served as Student Media Adviser and Lecturer at the University of Vermont.
His media consultancy and production house, Normal Productions, offers a variety of services to outside clients as well as developing personal passion projects.
Services
Normal Productions offers a wide range of media services, from hands on (soup-to-nuts) production of podcasts and video content to help with a broader media strategy for your company or institution.
Podcast Production
You don't have to be an expert to know that podcasts have carved out a singular space in the modern media ecosystem. They are in many ways the perfect content for our times and they aren't going anywhere. We offer soup-to-nuts production consulting to get you on the air.
TV/Video Production
With almost two decade of experience producing all types of television--from live events to studio programing to feature content--we have the skills and industry connections to help you tell a compelling story about your product.
Media Literacy and Strategy
A great media strategy begins with understanding the modern media ecosystem itself. We begin by educating clients and then help them develop a strategy that works for them and that makes practical sense in the 21st century.

Our Team.
At Normal Productions we like to say there's no 'our' in team, but an 'Our Team' widget in this website builder? Well, that's what you call inspiration.
We're a one man show really, backed up by decades of experience and an abundance of connections to production resources and professionals across the state, the country and the world. In a strictly spiritual sense Andy's collaborators include a friendly if timid assistant, a six-year-old Mario Kart savant, a long-dead public intellectual, a crooked stevedore and a retired major league baseball player whose last name means Easter in Italian.
Fortunately, making media in the 21st century isn't about massive crews, and loads of high-priced equipment. It's about being nimble and pragmatic (cheers Dr. Dewey) while taking every opportunity to have fun, and be normal.
